WIFT NZ Gender Pay Gap Survey Results

The survey itself makes sobering but unsurprising reading. Some statistics that jump out include

  • 40% of women and 25% of men working in the screen industry were earning less than the minimum wage, according to the 2018 Census.

  • There’s an 18% gender pay gap in production offices,

  • a 19% gap in editorial, and

  • a 22% gap in general post-production.

  • the gap for women working in the camera department is 53%.

  • Just 12% of women in the screen sector earn a six-figure salary, compared with 28% of men.

  • Almost half of the survey respondents said they’d undertaken unpaid work.

These figures eclipse the national gender pay gap of 9.2% many times over.
