Story, Camera, Action! with Steven Davis

  • MMC Venue 198 Marua Road Auckland New Zealand (map)

Steven Davis is an Internationally recognised Stunt Choreographer, Fight Choreographer and Stunt Performer, with more than 20 years experience in martial arts. Join us as he demystifies the mechanics of an action sequence and maximise the impact of the action within narrative - while maintaining the highest safety standards.

While stunt choreography can be one of the elements that define particular Asian genre films, it can also be used with subtlety to animate static scenarios in films. This breadth of understanding about the purpose of action is often lost as creators produce narratives limited in scope when it comes to action.

Steven will lead up to 8 directors to demystify the mechanics of an action sequence and maximise the impact of the action within narrative while maintaining the highest standards of safety. His knowledge of stunt design and cinematography which has been used in big budget Hollywood films like Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and local television series, Creamerie (2021) will up skill Pan-Asian directors and increase the potential for physically dynamic narratives.

There will also be a follow up workshop where the participants will be able to put their learnings into practice and receive critiquing and feedback.  This will be arranged at a later date.
