Building a Team for Episode One Redux: Q&A webinar #2 with Alice Shearman & Shuchi Kothari

Episode One Redux (Ep1R) is a capability-building initiative is the second iteration of the successful pilot programme of 2022-23. Geared towards emerging Pan-Asian practitioners who have the potential to develop and deliver a quality web series pilot for a local and/or international audience, Ep1R will once again provide tuition, development, and production funding for selected teams to accelerate their careers in the screen industry. 


Join Alice Shearman, Executive Director of he New Zealand Writers Guild and Shuchi Kothari, initiative designer of Episode One Redux to learn about everything there is to know about forming your team. 


The webinar will provide insight into how to form a strong team, conversations to be had before you form a team and setting expectations. A Q&A from attendees will conclude the session.

Key Bios

Alice Shearman

Alice specialises in developing screenwriters skills and talents through professional development pathways and stronger rights legislation. She is the executive director of the New Zealand Writers Guild, Director of the Board of Toi Mai, Deputy Chair of Film Auckland, was a founding member and Deputy Chairperson of the Agents Association of NZ.

Shuchi Kothari

Shuchi Kothari is a New Zealand-Indian writer, producer and academic. Many of her award-winning films (Kainga, Firaaq, Apron Strings, Coffee & Allah, etc) have screened at over 100 international film festivals including Venice, Cannes, Toronto, BFI, Busan, and Telluride.  She co-devised and produced A Thousand Apologies, New Zealand’s first Asian prime-time television Asian show. She regularly contributes to writers’ rooms, mentors critically acclaimed filmmakers/projects, designs and convenes workshops and has served on juries of Film and Television awards and national funding bodies.  As the co-founder of the Pan-Asian Screen Collective she advocates for equitable representation and increased access to means of production for Asian screen practitioners in Aotearoa New Zealand. She is an Associate Professor in Screen Production at the University of Auckland in New Zealand where she teaches screenwriting and creative producing.  Shuchi is the recipient of WIFT’s “Outstanding Contribution to the New Zealand Screen Industry'' award.
