Everything Writing with Varun Grover, moderated by Shuchi Kothari

  • Covert Theatre 51 Mackelvie Street Auckland, Auckland, 1021 New Zealand (map)

Members of Pan-Asian Screen Collective, New Zealand Writers Guild and Prayas are invited to a very special conversation with Varun Grover, one of India’s most dynamic writers, kanohi ki te kanohi in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Varun is a master wordsmith, whose success as a screenwriter (Masaan, Sacred Games, Sandeep aur Pinky Faraar), National Award-winning lyricist (RRR, Gangs of Wasseypur, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Udta Punjab), stand-up comedian, fiction writer, and poet crosses media boundaries. Known for his astute imagination and reputation as one of India’s top writing talents, more recently Varun has turned to directing films. His debut short film Kiss (2022) has travelled to more than twenty film festivals and garnered multiple awards. His directorial feature All India Rank premiered at IFFR (Rotterdam) and is set to release in India in late 2023.

As the appetite for culturally diverse screen content increases, screenwriter, producer and PASC mainstay, Shuchi Kothari, moderates this hour-long session to share Varun Grover’s key creative insights into all things writing. An audience Q&A concludes the session, followed by a cash bar and mingling.

The event is free for members of PASC, NZWG and Prayas and a koha for non-members.

When: Wednesday 5 July doors open at 5:30pm, starts at 6pm
